The Quiet Power of Attraction

“Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films.”

There’s something about autumn—the hush in the trees, the cooling air, the leaves letting go—that reminds us that power doesn’t always come with noise. In the world outside, we’re told that to be heard, we must shout; to be noticed, we must shine. But in recovery, Tradition Eleven reminds us of something different: the truest message we carry is not in what we say, but in how we live.

Attraction rather than promotion isn’t just a policy—it’s a spiritual principle. It invites us to walk in integrity, to let our recovery speak for itself. When we show up consistently, when we live clean, when we treat others with compassion, people notice. And when they’re suffering, they may remember us—and ask how we changed.

This tradition also reminds us that anonymity is not shame—it’s humility. We are not the face of NA, and we don’t speak for it. But we are the heart of it, and our lives bear witness to the miracle it offers.

Many of us came to NA not because someone sold it to us—but because we saw something in someone else that we wanted: peace in their eyes, lightness in their step, a way of being that felt safe and honest and whole. That’s the power of attraction.
